interview of the Belgium Head Coach
The BFF webpage has asked Belgian Head coach Marcus Frisk some questions after the WFCQ in Poland last week.

Before the WFCQ in Poland the team had a training weekend in Sweden. How did the preparation go and what did you do?

We had a real good and educational weekend where we focused on details in our game. But we also had some advanced fighting training with one of Swedens most experienced fighters. This weekend was also a perfect way to get know each other. I dare say that we during those three days together broke the social barriers and created a team spirit among all players.

You won the first match against Great Britain. Can you tell us some about the good and bad from that match?

This match was a typically first game in a tournament. We didn't know our standard compared to our opponents and entered the game a bit hesitating. But for the first time for a while we showed some self-confidence in our way to play. According to my point of view a rarely seen self-reliance was coming along slowly but surely.

Second match it was Poland and after the first period Belgium were up 2-1. What was the feeling then?

Before the match we saw this match as our chance to get through to the finals. Obviously we knew for sure that we had to play our best floorball ever to be able to trouble such a strong and solid team as Poland. Therefore we were still enthusiastic about our chances while entering the field for the second period.

Why could Poland turn the match into victory?

First of all; Poland was the better team in this game. We learnt a lot from this match and to be able to surprise by beating Poland we have to be more precise in our finishing passes and shots. Poland had the same level over 60 minutes and it paid off like it should.

Last group match was against Denmark and from what we understand Denmark was a class better than Poland. What did the team learn from this match?

You have to learn from small details in a game like the one against Denmark. One of those things was the fact that we realized that we can score against a good team like Denmark not only from their mistakes but also thanks to our own performance.

On Saturday the match for 5th place was to play for. Austria won 4-6 in a match that Belgium could have won. Any comments?

We didn't do ourselves justice in this match. The Austrian win was definitely fair. We were not fit enough for four hard games in four days. There was a lack of energy in the team because of the hard games earlier that week. I reckon that we learnt the hard way what we need to improve to be able to succeed in next WFCQ.

In WFC-2004 in Madrid Belgium was last. Now 6 years later at the comeback for the National team Belgium finished 6th in the Poland Qualification which means that Serbia, Great Britain, Georgia and Lichtenstein is behind Belgium in the ranking. This is important ranking points won for next WFCQ in 2012. What is needed to be done so that the Belgian team can take the next step and qualify?

The players need more and harder games during the regular season. Furthermore I hope to see better educated players on an earlier stage than today.

The BFF have asked you and Daniel to continue for 2 more years. Have you signed yet?

Apparently we are both flattered by the offer. This is so far a question between the BFF and the coaches. I will be more than delighted to inform you all when I've come to a decision.

BFF is thankful for Marcus answers and hope to see him and Daniel back in Belgium soon.
